App Clip Card
The system-provided interface that appears before an App Clip launches, displaying the App Clip's title, subtitle, header image, and an Open button.
The App Clip Card is the first thing users see before they launch your App Clip. It appears as a compact card at the bottom of the screen, displaying your App Clip’s branding and a call-to-action. The card’s quality directly affects whether users tap “Open” or dismiss it.
Card Elements
- Header image: 1800x1200 pixels, displayed at 3:2 aspect ratio
- Title: Up to 32 characters. Should communicate the action or benefit
- Subtitle: Up to 56 characters. Adds context to the title
- Call-to-action button: “Open” by default
Default vs Advanced Experiences
Each App Clip has one default card that appears for any registered URL. Advanced experiences allow different cards for different URL patterns or locations. A restaurant ordering app can show each restaurant’s name and branding on its specific card.
Card Optimization
The App Clip Card is essentially a micro-conversion step. Optimizing it follows the same principles as store listing optimization:
- Use a clear, branded header image that communicates the experience
- Lead with an action-oriented title (“Order Food,” “Pay for Parking”)
- Add context in the subtitle (“Skip the line at any location”)
- Test different card configurations to improve tap-through rate
Configuration
Cards are configured in App Store Connect under your app’s App Clip section. Changes require review but do not require a new app binary.
