App Clip Card
The system-provided interface that appears before an App Clip launches, displaying the App Clip's title, subtitle, header image, and an Open button.
The App Clip Card is the first element users see before launching your App Clip. It appears as a compact panel at the bottom of the screen, showing your branding and a call-to-action. Card quality determines whether users tap “Open” or swipe away.
Card Elements
- Header image: 1800x1200 pixels, displayed at 3:2 aspect ratio
- Title: Up to 32 characters. Should communicate the action or benefit
- Subtitle: Up to 56 characters. Adds context to the title
- Call-to-action button: “Open” by default
Default vs Advanced Experiences
Each App Clip has one default card that appears for any registered URL. Advanced experiences let you assign distinct cards to different URL patterns or locations. A restaurant ordering app, for example, can display each venue’s name and branding on its own card.
Card Optimization
The App Clip Card functions as a micro-conversion step. Optimizing it follows the same principles as store listing work:
- Use a clear, branded header image that communicates the experience
- Lead with an action-oriented title (“Order Food,” “Pay for Parking”)
- Add context in the subtitle (“Skip the line at any location”)
- Test different card configurations to improve tap-through rate
Configuration
Cards are configured in App Store Connect under your app’s App Clip section. Changes require review but do not require a new app binary.
