App Clip Code

Apple's proprietary circular visual code designed specifically for App Clips, combining a scannable visual pattern with an embedded NFC tag for dual invocation methods.

App Clip Codes are Apple’s branded visual codes that serve as physical triggers for App Clips. They look distinct from QR codes, using a circular design with a pattern that iPhone cameras recognize. Many App Clip Codes also embed an NFC tag, giving users two ways to invoke the experience: scanning with the camera or tapping with NFC.

Generating App Clip Codes

App Clip Codes are created in App Store Connect:

  1. Navigate to your app’s App Clip section
  2. Select an Advanced App Clip Experience
  3. Click “Create App Clip Code”
  4. Choose a color scheme matching your brand
  5. Download in SVG format for print production

Design Specifications

  • Minimum printed size: 1 inch (2.54 cm) diameter
  • Sufficient contrast between code and background
  • Do not modify the code shape or overlay the pattern
  • Include the App Clip Code logo mark when space permits

  • Distinctive Apple branding helps users understand the experience

  • Smaller form factor than QR codes at equivalent scanning distances

Limitations
