Daily Active Users (DAU) represents the count of unique users who open and interact with an app within a single calendar day. Each user is counted only once regardless of how many sessions they have that day. DAU is one of the most widely used metrics in the mobile app industry for measuring an app’s reach and daily engagement level.
DAU in the Context of ASO
DAU plays a significant role in how app stores evaluate an app’s popularity and relevance. A rising DAU count signals to store algorithms that an app is gaining traction, which can positively influence search rankings and category placement. The DAU-to-MAU ratio, often called the stickiness ratio, is a particularly useful metric that reveals what percentage of monthly users engage with the app every day. A ratio above 20% is generally considered healthy for most app categories.
Tracking and Interpreting DAU
Monitoring DAU trends over time helps teams identify the impact of marketing campaigns, feature launches, and seasonal events.
