Invocation
The act of triggering and launching an App Clip or Instant App, typically through a URL, QR code, NFC tag, or system suggestion.
Invocation is the moment when an App Clip or Instant App is launched by the operating system in response to a user action. It is the entry point of the instant experience and the first step in the conversion funnel from discovery to full app install.
Invocation Methods
App Clips on iOS can be invoked through:
- QR code scans
- NFC tag taps
- App Clip Code scans
- Safari Smart App Banner taps
- Apple Maps place card taps
- Links in Messages, Mail, or other apps
- Siri suggestions based on location or behavior
Android Instant Apps are invoked through:
- Google Search result taps
- Google Maps listing taps
- Links in messaging apps
- App Links from verified domains
The Invocation Flow
- User triggers the invocation (scans, taps, or clicks)
- The system resolves the URL to a registered App Clip or Instant App
- The App Clip Card appears (iOS) or the module begins loading (Android)
- User taps “Open” to launch the experience
- The app receives the invocation URL and routes to the appropriate screen
Tracking Invocations
Every invocation is a measurable event. Track invocation volume, source channel, and downstream conversion to understand which trigger points are most effective at driving engagement and full app installs.
