Keyword Field
A hidden 100-character field in iOS App Store Connect where developers enter comma-separated keywords that Apple indexes for search but users never see.
The keyword field is an iOS-only metadata field available in App Store Connect. It allows you to specify up to 100 characters of search terms that Apple’s algorithm will index. Unlike the title and subtitle, the keyword field is invisible to users.
How to Use the 100 Characters
Every character counts. Maximize the field with these rules:
- Separate keywords with commas, no spaces after commas
- Don’t repeat words already in your title or subtitle (Apple indexes them automatically)
- Use singular forms only (Apple matches plurals automatically)
- Don’t include the word “app” (Apple adds it for all apps)
- Don’t include your app name or developer name
- Don’t include competitor names (Apple may reject your update)
- Avoid prepositions and articles (a, the, for, with) unless they are part of a meaningful phrase
Example
If your title is “ZenBreath - Sleep Meditation” and subtitle is “Relaxation & Focus Sounds”:
timer,breathing,anxiety,stress,relief,bedtime,morning,calm,guided,mindfulness,white,noise,nature
This adds 13 additional keywords without repeating any word from the title or subtitle.
Updating Keywords
The keyword field can only be changed when submitting a new app version. Plan keyword updates alongside your release schedule. Use ASO tools like ASODOG to track which keywords perform well and which should be replaced in the next update.
Google Play Equivalent
Google Play has no equivalent hidden keyword field. Instead, it indexes the full description (4,000 characters) for search. This means Google Play keyword strategy relies on natural keyword placement throughout the description text.
