Seed Keywords
The initial set of broad keywords that describe your app's core functionality, category, and user problems. Used as starting points for keyword expansion and long-tail research.
Seed keywords are the foundation of your keyword research process. They are broad terms that capture what your app does, who it serves, and what problems it solves.
Where to Find Seeds
App functionality: What does your app do in plain language? A habit tracking app might start with “habit,” “tracker,” “routine,” “goals,” “daily.”
User problems: What pain points does your app address? “Procrastination,” “forgetfulness,” “disorganized,” “unmotivated.”
User outcomes: What results do users achieve? “Productivity,” “focus,” “discipline,” “better habits.”
Category terms: What category does your app belong to? “Self improvement,” “productivity app,” “personal development.”
Competitor titles: What keywords do competing apps use in their titles and subtitles?
How Many Seeds You Need
Aim for 20-30 diverse seeds covering functionality, problems, outcomes, and category terms. Too few seeds limits your expansion possibilities. Too many seeds creates a research workload that delays action.
Seeds vs Final Keywords
Seeds are not the keywords you optimize for. They are inputs to the expansion process. Most seeds are too broad and competitive to target directly. The value of seeds is in the long-tail variations they generate when combined with modifiers and filtered through KGR analysis.
