Sign in with Apple
Apple's authentication service that lets users sign in to apps using their Apple ID with privacy-preserving email relay.
Sign in with Apple is an authentication system that allows users to log into apps and websites using their Apple ID. It provides a fast, secure sign-in experience with built-in privacy features, including the option to hide the user’s real email address behind a unique relay address generated by Apple. Since 2020, Apple requires apps that offer third-party social login to also offer Sign in with Apple as an option.
How It Works
When a user taps the Sign in with Apple button, they authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode. The app receives a unique user identifier, a verified email address (or relay address), and optionally the user’s name. Apple handles two-factor authentication automatically. The relay email system forwards messages to the user’s real email while keeping it private from the developer. On subsequent sign-ins, the process is seamless and requires only biometric confirmation.
Benefits for Conversion and Compliance
Sign in with Apple reduces friction in the onboarding flow, which directly improves conversion from download to registered user. Users trust the Apple-backed authentication more than creating new accounts, leading to higher sign-up completion rates. For ASO, a smooth onboarding experience contributes to better ratings and reviews. Non-compliance with Apple’s requirement to include Sign in with Apple when other social logins are present will result in App Review rejection, blocking updates and new submissions that are critical for maintaining ASO momentum.
