Apple Developer Program

Apple's enrollment program that grants access to distribute apps on the App Store, use TestFlight, and access developer tools and APIs.

The Apple Developer Program is the gateway to publishing apps on the App Store. Developers must enroll and maintain an active membership to distribute apps to customers, access beta versions of Apple operating systems, and use advanced platform capabilities like CloudKit, push notifications, and Sign in with Apple.

Individual vs Organization Enrollment

Apple offers two enrollment types, both priced at $99 per year. Individual enrollment is designed for solo developers and uses the developer’s personal legal name on App Store listings. Organization enrollment is for companies and other legal entities, requiring a D-U-N-S number for verification. The organization’s legal name appears as the developer on all published apps.

What You Get

An active membership unlocks app distribution on the App Store and Mac App Store, access to TestFlight for beta testing, early access to beta OS releases and developer tools, and full use of App Store Connect for managing listings, analytics, and pricing. Members also gain access to technical support incidents and the complete suite of Apple frameworks and APIs.

Why It Matters for ASO

The developer name shown on your App Store listing comes directly from your enrollment type. Organization accounts display a company name, which can carry brand recognition and keyword value. Team management features also let you assign an ASO-focused Marketing role, giving metadata access without exposing code or financial data.
